New Literacies and 21st Century Technologies

This article discussed ITCs in the classroom and it's importance to students now and for their future.  Literacy educators now have a responsibility to teach this to their students and to arm themselves w with professional development to improve upon their technology skills.

In some parts of the world students are well equipped with these tools of technology, the author referred to these types of school as the haves whereas the haves-not are behind and will continue to be behind. What could this mean for the future of these children, who will certainly be at a disadvantage in years to come and in the work force. The responsibilities lay with teachers, parents, teacher educators, school administrators, policymakers and even researchers.

I think the biggest impact and benefit can only come from teacher education programs, if they are mandatory. If teachers are exposed to ITCs in their training it will not be such a foreign concept to them and thereby the students will reap the benefits.

  1. I agree with you that the more teachers are educated on the integration of technology, the more successful students will be. If teachers aren't confident with technology themselves, they will not properly implement it into curriculum to help students.
