Second Life
Second Life is an AMAZING virtual reality game! It is fun to play with the various characters within the app, all personalize-able and so much fun. The game is not only fun but educational and features so many places around the world! With 360 Views of anywhere you are standing, there are beaches from all over the world, you can even view sites for local donations, shoppes and fun things like jet ski rentals.
The geographical elements are wonderful for ELA instruction, as it features scenes from various cities, beaches, parks and so much more. Students may find it interesting with the teleport feature to learn about these places.
There is a chat feature, for communication with peers. Even if a teacher introduces this game, at first, just to gauge student interest, he/she can get students writing and communicating with one another using this multi-modal pathway. They can write about the places they have visited, music they are listening to, food that they are experiencing and so much more. It is an excellent tool to use within an ELA lesson for children as it is motivational, fun and interactive and will hold their attention.
I agree that this app is amazing! I think that this could be very useful in developing sociocognitive skills and develop students understandings and awareness to their surroundings not only in the game but in real life as well. I think that it is also a great way to teach students about geographic features that you may not be able to fully do in the classroom because you aren't in that element if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI like this game design. In the game learners can explore where they want to go in the game world and explore what they like and practice their researching ability and interact with friend through the internet.
ReplyDeleteSL is interesting to learn but also need to be careful when students are too involved with gaming. I know France also forbidden kids bringing their phones to school and my school does that this year as well. This is great tool for students to work collaboratively.
